My first [info]cliche_bingo fic, for "rare pairings". Stretching the prompt a bit, because some of these aren't rare, but some of them probably are? Warnings for more cliches, pure crack, and, er, other things.

I've had this one in mind for a while, because let's face it, it's fun to pick on poor McGee.

NCIS: 5 Nights McGee Can't Forget {~4,800 words}
PG-13; het, slash; humor, crack
This isn't the first time Tim's had this dream...

He has to admit, it was one of the more memorable variations. )

For now, a drabble. Jack Harkness, post-CoE, so spoilers (if oblique ones).

Just signed up for the new multi-fandom fic-writing challenge, [info]cliche_bingo - like Kink Bingo for the kink-impaired. Yay, cliches! If you've been looking for fic inspiration, come join in! Should be fun. *crosses fingers for h/c prompts*

Also wrote a few 6-word MUNCLE fics. Those are as addictive as drabbling!

Now, back to ficcing. (...would anyone out there be interested in cheerleading a WiP MUNCLE angst-fic?)

MFU fic: For Every Action

I wrote! New fic! Go me! Even if it is ridiculous fic. Initially inspired by a [info]mfuwss discussion on our favorite secret agents' living spaces, and plotted on the journey back to America in collusion with [info]gnine, who came up with half the pranks. It's slash (which, for me, seems to involve Napoleon having sex with lots of women. Yeah, I dunno. It's all in good fun?)

(Oh, and I drabbled again.)

MUNCLE: For Every Action {~6,000 words}
PG-13; slash, humor
A man's home is his castle, and Napoleon and Illya are laying siege on one another in a fierce, relentless, and very silly war of retribution.

Illya rarely invited people over to his apartment... )

SGA fic: The ATA Affair

The [info]sga_genficathon author reveals have been posted! Lots of great stories, and the bonus round is now open for more - go check it out!

My story was (as pretty much everyone guessed, gee I wonder why... ;):

SGA: The ATA Affair (or read it on AOOO) {~26,000 words}
PG-13; gen, Team; AU
Two of the S.G.C.'s top secret agents, Teyla Emmagan and Rodney McKay, are sent to the Casino Atlantis to investigate the suspicious business dealings of one John Sheppard...

It was written for the AU genre, and as you might be able to surmise from the title and summary, it was a wee bit influenced by my shiny new Man from UNCLE infatuation. It's also my longest completed SGA story, and rather indulges in my Rodney & Teyla friendship kink. What can I say; they make awesome partners. Teyla's level-headed patience and stone-cold coolness play off Rodney's brilliance and panic attacks perfectly.

In addition to MUNCLE, there's a few other crossover nods in the story, solely because I'm easily amused. Knowledge of any of the other series is unimportant to the actual plot, but since folks were asking, here's the complete list of crossovers, not counting SGA and SG-1:

MFU fic: Sand Trap

Classic, absurdly indulgent h/c, because [info]gnine asked for it, plotted on the nighttime streets of Hanoi a couple weeks ago. If you've read my fic in other fandoms, you might well have already read this story - with other characters, and there's sand instead of snow, and hyperthermia instead of hypo-, but really, same difference. My only defense is that for a series that lends itself to outrageous h/c, I haven't gotten as much as I'd like in MUNCLE...

As is my wont with h/c, this is noodling right on the edge of gen; you could call it smarm, or pre-slash, whichever. (I tried to keep it gen, but Napoleon was...uncooperative...) And much thanks to [info]gnine, [info]utopiantrunks, and [info]naye for shared cheerleader/beta duties!

MFU: Sand Trap {~13,000 words}
PG, gen, h/c, action/adventure
Injured and pursued by THRUSH, Illya and Napoleon must survive a trek through the Sahara to get vital information to U.N.C.L.E. in time.

[Read it on AOOO]
or on lj:

The THRUSH men never saw him coming. To their credit, neither did Napoleon, and he was Illya's partner... )

MFU fic: Discretionary Powers

muncle old skool
(So~, does anybody have a Dreamwidth invite burning a hole in their virtual pocket?) Sankyuu~!

Today was a ficcing day. Short and quite silly; sweet if I'm lucky and maybe a little hot (if I'm really lucky). Thanks to [info]gnine for the quick read-through, as well as for the deep and meaningful (okay, shallow and punchdrunk) discussion late last night (okay, early this morning) that led to the idea in the first place.

MFU: Discretionary Powers {~2,300 words}
PG-13; Napoleon/Illya slash; first-time, fluff
U.N.C.L.E. effects a change in policy, and Illya takes advantage.

'I have just heard from Mr. Waverly,' Illya said. 'Subsection C of Rule 37 has officially been rescinded from the U.N.C.L.E. Code of General Conduct.' )

MFU fic: Sublimierung

  • Apr. 6th, 2009 at 7:31 PM
muncle old skool
This is slash, but the sex is het. Yeah, I don't know. Blame Napoleon. Thanks to [info]utopiantrunks for catching my typos, the [info]little_details comm for Russian advice, and Wikipedia and Google Maps for the rest.

MFU: Sublimierung {~3,100 words}
PG-13 (non-explicit sex); het, slash
"I'm sorry you're missing your date," Illya said, at four thousand feet over the South China Sea.

She started work in U.N.C.L.E. New York, Research section, on Monday; Napoleon had his social calendar cleared by Wednesday evening. )

MFU fic: Temporarily Inactive

  • Mar. 30th, 2009 at 4:14 AM
muncle old skool
Tagged again, but this time, I seem to have slashed. Oops? (Sorry! It's all [info]gnine's fault!) ...Only I cheated, because this is a PWP that is missing the actual sex. Sorry to everyone else! Writing erotica is an extreme challenge for me, so with a silly little story like this, I just...er...skipped it. When you hit the dreaded asterisks, use your imagination XP

This one's a tag to "The Arabian Affair," which is sheer farce, but on the other hand, gorgeous Illya is gorgeous, and I am such a sucker for Napoleon searching for his partner.

MFU: Temporarily Inactive {~2,200 words}
PG-13; slash, humor; tag to 2x07 "The Arabian Affair"
"Then prove it," Napoleon said, and that was all the warning he gave.

Twenty-three hours after their return to America, Illya was released from the hospital. The doctors supplied him with a cane and insisted that he rely on it for the next week. While in sight of the hospital, Illya took this instruction to mean, and left the cane in Napoleon's backseat when they reached his apartment. )

MFU fic: Island Getaway

  • Mar. 25th, 2009 at 10:05 PM
muncle shack
Another ep tag, and hardly more than a ficlet, indulging [info]gnine, who craved more Illya h/c at the end of "The Concrete Overcoat Affair."

MFU: Island Getaway {~2,300 words}
PG; gen, h/c; missing scene from the end of 3x12 "The Concrete Overcoat Affair, Part 2"
"There's just one thing--we better leave before the bombers get here."

Halfway to the shore, they encounter a party of THRUSH guards who apparently have decided discretion is the better part of valor and are also getting the hell out of Dodge... )

MFU fic: Making Perfect

muncle gaze
Illya is my new beloved, the object of my latest obsession. So, naturally, this story is...all about Napoleon. Well, and Illya, of course, because, you know, two sides of the same coin and all that. But Napoleon Solo is like John Sheppard, in that to make sense of his character, you have to suspect there is some fascinating stuff going on inside his head.

It's a tag to "The Gurnius Affair" - I suspect one of dozens of tags written over the years of the fandom. Hundreds, maybe. This episode might well have induced the spontaneous invention of the very concept of a tag-fic in many a budding fangirl. (If you don't watch/don't remember, this is the ep where Illya goes undercover as a neo-Nazi and has to torture Napoleon to preserve his cover, and then there is absolutely ZERO RESOLUTION WHATSOEVER.)

So. Resolution. And angst. And no slash, except what you want to see. (It's gen the way most of my gen is gen.) And a dash of (unresolved) het, because really, this is Napoleon Solo we're talking about.

MFU: Making Perfect {~8,000 words}
PG; gen, angst; tag to 4x11 "The Gurnius Affair"
Four years is a long time. But this is not Napoleon's decision to make anyway.

Napoleon would like to say yes, but he's had too much to drink. Not much, only half a glass more than he ought to have had, but enough. )

It's almost 9 AM. No, I didn't get up early, I just haven't gone to bed yet. But I'm writing! I am putting words together in (hopefully) new ways and (hopefully) making them say things and now I have 7,000 of them arranged in a more-or-less readable fashion and oh I have missed this! I am not myself when I'm not writing, but now I am, and so I am, and it is good.

--Unfortunately I am not writing what anyone wants me to be writing, but it is still infinitely preferable to not writing at all. (Also I need to arrange maybe another thousand words to reach a conclusion, but that will have to wait until tomorrow as right now I am hard-pressed to remember what order any of them are supposed to go in.)(You may have three guesses as to what I am writing, and the first two don't count. And yes the icon is a hint. By the way, this is supposed to be a GIP, because look at this icon. The screencap was not manipped or edited. See? See?!)

Top Secret Note for those who recommended Sapphire & Steel: why did none of you warn me that David McCallum in his later forties was if anything hotter than David McCallum in his early thirties? He's not Illya, but still. A girl needs to know to brace herself. I'm dreading the new NCIS tomorrow, because right now his voice is doing things to me, and his voice hasn't changed...

Yaysleep!

a blast from the past

Folks on Fanlore have been posting info about various print zines, reminding me that I actually had a couple to my own name, way back when, one of which I never got around to posting online. So, just in time for its tenth anniversary (holy guacamole), I've put up Brothers in Limbo and its sequel. It's gen h/c smarm (we're talking hardcore old-school smarm, manly hugging and crying, the whole subtextually teasing kit and caboodle, entirely innocent as this was a good couple years before I got into slash) and the only Sentinel/Real Ghostbusters/Quantum Leap crossover fics online, that I know of.

I wrote this back in March, 1999, and have posted the document as-is, because I can't actually bring myself to read it; the quirks of my earlier writing tweak me out, but I feel vaguely guilty about editing stories from this long ago, like I'm censoring my older self.

In other news, in case lj sinks into the sea tomorrow, you can find me on Fanlore. (For those who haven't been sucked in - beware! Abandon all hope, ye who enter the Wiki of Fannish Doom! I joined yesterday and then lost something like five hours writing up stuff on YGO. And OP only has a stub, and GetBackers isn't even on there yet - so much to do!)

Everyone's doing it, so I thought, why not? Three hours later - oh, that's why not. Man, I wrote a lot this year. I'm lazy and left out a couple short comment-fic; as always those and everything I've written is compulsively indexed on Delicious.

These are all SGA unless otherwise stated. Warnings that a lot of my comments may spoil the fics themselves, if that bothers you. Also, I ramble on a lot; I am way too fond of talking about my own writing.

SGA fic: Out in the Open

  • Jan. 2nd, 2009 at 2:55 PM

The author reveals for [info]sga_santa have been posted - go, read, enjoy! There's tons of great stories there, I'm still working through them. I definitely recommend "my" story, Mended by [info]sheafrotherdon, featuring sleep-deprivation and lovely Rodney-comfort. Yays!

While I'm at it:
[info]aesc's Faith Healing is a cool AU with Ancient tech and the Trust and Rodney & John coming together.
[info]argosy's Five Stories Jeannie Miller Tells is angst-with-a-happy-ending.
[info]leupagus's Happy Tails To You is the kind of really silly crack SGA fandom excels at (it particularly got to me because it was posted only two hours after [info]gnine and I happened to be musing about what John & Rodney would do with prehensile tails...)
And [info]lillyjk's My Other Car's a Puddlescooter has a puddlescooter, which has to be one of the cutest names for a vehicle.

And there's my own fic:

SGA: Out in the Open {~22,000 words}
PG-13, McShep + Team gen, set after 5x14: "The Prodigal"
It's Situation Normal for the team when they're caught in an avalanche, but digging themselves out uncovers more than they counted on.

While this is technically a John/Rodney fic, it's really much more of a team action story with a sprinkle of McShep for flavoring. It was meant to be more McShep-focused, but then, there's plenty of McShep out there, and not nearly as much Teyla kicking ass and taking names. So, here's Teyla! And Ronon, too, dealing with their idiot teammates as best they can. ...Oh, yeah, and it starts with an avalanche on a snowy mountainside. Because, y'know, I'm contractually obligated to write one such story in every fandom I'm in (or more like when I flail for ideas, that's always one of the first to pop up...)

SGA fic & recs & such

I should be working on holiday cards, but there's a Cold Outside SGA fic-fest going on, for which I dunked John in a river. Yeah, again. It's December, what do you want out of me?

And [info]sga_santa is live, with a ton of great stories in all genres (mine own will be revealed come January.) Meanwhile I've had a chance to check out a few (these mostly happen to be McShep, though there's plenty of other pairings and gen to choose from):

Stargazing - Wow. Gorgeous AU scifi, beautiful romance in only a few thousand words. One of those stories you wish were a novel, so you could give it to your friends to read and gush about.

The Bumblebee Myth - another AU, this one proving the old adage: no one does CRACK the way SGA fandom does CRACK. They're all insects (plus one arachnid). Frighteningly adorable insects. Having hijinx! and gender identity crises! at a university! Put it this way, John is a walking stick who wants to fly. Yeah, this is why I might never leave SGA fandom - where else am I going to get a fix like this?

Broadcast Signal - Rodney is imprisoned and his team's supposedly killed, but Sheppard is an awfully lively hallucination for a dead guy. Fun bit of scifi, just enough angst for spice.

Shrapnel in his Skin - (Rodney/Ronon and Rodney/John) On the other hand, if you're looking for major angst, look no further. Ow. Not totally depressing, but dark.

The Daniel and Rodney Snark Fest of Pornographic Doom - Bwahah! Mostly worth it for the Woolsey/Desk. C'mon, you know it's really disturbing and potentially mentally scarring canon!
